Pennsylvania high school basketball star Adou Thiero of Quaker Valley (Leetsdale) had a busy weekend. According to multiple reports, the Pennsylvania Sports Writers named him on the first team of the Class 4A All-State team, and he committed to Kentucky on Sunday.

In recent months, Thiero’s stock exploded after he averaged 23.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 3.9 steals per game as a senior, leading Quaker Valley to a 27-1 record and a trip to the Class 4A state championship game.

Since the end of Quaker Valley’s season, programs such as Cincinnati, Maryland, Pittsburgh, and Xavier have offered scholarships to the 6-foot-5 guard.

Kentucky coach John Calipari attended Moon Area (Moon Township), less than 10 miles away from Quaker Valley High School.

Theiro’s father, Almamy, played at Memphis and Duquesne and stood 6-9. His mother, Mariam, is 6-3 and was drafted in the 2006 WNBA draft.
