After excellent playoff performances, three teams that were in the MaxPreps Top 25 high school baseball rankings early in the season return.

Reno, which had previously defeated Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) and Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.), was knocked out of the MaxPreps Top 25 by Bishop Manogue last week. The Huskies, on the other hand, won 3-1 in the North Region Class 4A tournament to progress to the state championship, where they will meet Bishop Gorman again.

In the finals of the West Catholic Athletic League tournament, Saint Francis (Mountain View, Calif.) avenged an earlier loss by defeating Valley Christian (San Jose).

Villa Park (Calif.) also returned after reaching the Division 1 playoffs of the Southern Section. JSerra Catholic, the defending Division 1 champion, is up next.

West Monroe had the greatest start, taking advantage of Barbe’s semifinal loss to overcome Dutchtown in the bottom of the seventh inning and then defeating St. Amant to capture the Louisiana Class 5A state title. The Rebels are ranked 13th for the first time.

No. 13 Orange Lutheran (Orange, Calif.); No. 14. Dutchtown (Geismar, La. ); No. 18. St. Amant (La. ); No. 19 Barbe (Lake Charles, La. ); No. 24 Tate (Lake Charles, La. ); No. 25 Tate (Lake Charles, La. ); No (Cantonment, Fla.)

West Monroe 6, Dutchtown 5 (best game). West Monroe won the Louisiana Class 5A playoffs on a walk-off home run by Trey Hawsey in the bottom of the seventh inning. With a win over St. Amant, West Monroe went on to win the championship.

Jake Dresselhouse of St. Mary’s Prep was named Player of the Week. He had 13 RBI in a five-game span, including five in the opening game versus De La Salle Collegiate and four in the second.

Reno vs. Bishop Gorman is a game to watch. The first match between the two teams was won by the Huskies. The victor advances to the Class 4A state championship game this time, while the loser is expected to fall out of the MaxPreps Top 25.

Silo (Oklahoma) finished the season with a perfect 30-0 record, a sixth straight Class 2A state championship, and 58 straight victories. That run, though, could be in jeopardy as No. 1 St. Mary’s Prep (Orchard Lake, Mich.) continues to roll. To complete the 2021 season, the Eaglets are also 30-0 and have won 22 straight games.
